A beautiful, bright, bushy tale of hurt and recovery and the bond between a father and daughter
A touching, ebullient and comforting book, sure to please children whether they are having to endure challenges or not ... the illustrations are such fun and so sprightly
An uplifting story of despair, hope and recovery
”My daughter and I loved this inspirational, adventurous tale about Hazel’s tail with its wonderful illustrations. It is full of positivity, even in the face of adversity. It’s a pure celebration of both the bond between parent and child, and the power of youthful resilience. Perfect for our times.”

“We needed something positive and joyful to cheer us up…”

Book highlights
Looking downwards to the forest floor, Hazel felt scared. Climbing down was always trickier than climbing up, and the Big Enormous Oak was so tall and twisty. She was hopping carefully from one branch to another when suddenly she heard the noise that all squirrels fear…
Story behind the book
The author Julian Reisz explain ”When my daughter was just two years old, she needed to have multiple surgeries to fix a problem with her hip. I made up a story to lift Elisa’s spirits and remind her of the positive outcome we were working towards – and she loved it. The story evolved over time and, after reading an early version of it at a local school and to the children of friends, everyone’s enthusiasm made me feel it was worth publishing. I knew that finding the right illustrator would be crucial, and Alex Beeching was the perfect choice: he has created a wonderful setting for Hazel’s adventure. I hope the book will appeal to all children, but particularly those going through similarly tough times – and their families too.”
